On Friday morning March 2nd, Miami-Dade Mayor Carlos A. Gimenez lead Bike305 “Bike to Work Day” ride.  Attended by County Commissioners, municipal Mayors, county administrators, state officials and hundreds of cyclists, the event kicked off at the University Metrorail Station.

Miami-Dade Parks, Recreation and Open Spaces hosted the 2018 Bike305 “Bike to Work Day” event, which kicked-off a calendar of cycling activities throughout March which is  as “Bike305 Month” in Miami-Dade County.

The event is designed to demonstrate how easy it is to cycle to work, especially when combined with a trip on public transportation, and to appreciate, if only for this one day, to reduce traffic congestion and experience the stress-relieving health benefits of pedaling a bike.

Elected officials, department administrators and sponsor gather for a group photo.

Free Bike305 T-Shirts were distributed and coffee, OJ and bagels were provided to those attending.

Special recognition was given to the Bike305 Family of the Year, the Bourgeois family and the Bike305 Municipality of the Year was the City of North Miami Beach.

Bike305 is a collaboration of Miami-Dade County municipalities, Miami-Dade Transportation and Public Works Departments and South Florida cycling groups – all who encourage healthy lifestyles and transportation alternatives through bike-friendly events that connect bikeways, trails and greenways, as well as programs that teach safe-cycling skills to children and adults.

Twenty-three municipalities are currently partners with the Bike305 movement with the goal of having all 34 municipalities on board within the next several years.
