HOLIDAY FASHION HINTS

If you are still torturing yourself with that lingering question “What to wear?” this holiday season, I can understand your angst over a calendar full of cocktail parties, dinners, family get-togethers and corporate social gatherings. And with that kind of schedule, you can’t settle for just one outfit. Luckily, the lineup of hot holiday trends for 2013 is irresistible.

This and every season should be about looking and feeling like a queen, but during the holidays, that is more true than ever.  This year, some designers decided to take a page from history, as portrayed in movies and books about ancient times. Armor-like outfits crafted from metal were seen on the runways of Anthony Vaccarello, Chloé and Paco Rabbanne. Who could forget the ethereal creations presented by Alexander McQueen, their shine attracting  the attention of the heads of the fashion world? Selecting the right suit of armor for the right evening of festivities shouldn’t be difficult as this hot trend crosses the spectrum from separates to ball gowns. Jewelry and accessories this season also take inspiration from the runway, keeping a classic essence depicted in the use of intaglios, cameos, and Old World craftsmanship.

Rich embellishment is one of the hottest trends. Whether paired with a party dress or a more comfortable day ensemble, opt for chunky jewelry and accessories to make your outfit a walking statement. Here it is mostly about layering chunky chains and neck pieces, worn with sweaters and turtlenecks. A more refined evening cocktail ensemble pairs well with layered long chains and a variation of chunky and also more delicate links.  These embellishments can be easily applied to any heavy knit or cashmere sweater, making a bold statement while exuding beauty and refined femininity.

The most prominent color of the season is expressive and passionate oxblood red.  Available in a wide palette of shades, its deep meaning and great appeal stuns from the runway shows. Marc Jacobs, Erdem, Dolce and Gabbana and many others opted for this color as the highlight of their collections. It draws much attention, and when paired with rich gold-toned accessory is irresistible. A multitude of prints are also trending, but  unlike past seasons’ focus on animal patterns, this fall is going to be full of colorful prints and styles that amaze with their elaborate composition and bright hues. Givenchy, Hermes and Lanvin decided to make our lives more fun, and how can we not be grateful for that? Accessorize with big statement pieces, chunky stone necklaces, layered multi-bead strands and chains, and a fun cocktail ring.

This winter season we also see the return of Grunge; it is on the top of the mountain and will stay there at least until spring. You’ll find punk and rock deeply rooted in the Fall 2013 Ready-to-Wear shows of Saint Laurent, Haider Ackerman and Zadig & Voltaire.  Leather jackets, mesh tights, biker boots, studs, layering of chain, heavy links, safety pins and combat boots bring the grunge princess to fruition.

Whether you are the queen of the ball or princess of the urban jungle, this winter’s fashion scope has a look to satisfy everyone’s taste. From chaos to couture, 2013 has been a stylish year. We would like to extend very FASHIONABLE HOLIDAY GREETINGS to all our readers and wishes for a HEALTHY AND PROSPEROUS NEW YEAR. Have fun, be safe and STYLE ON!
