Kent Crook, president and CEO of WireMasters Electric is an entrepreneur who understands the value of excellent customer service and the power of targeted marketing. A successful businessman in the Miami area for over 25 years, Kent has been involved in 22 business ventures. He was recently tapped to serve as Chamber South’s new board Chair and is looking forward to his one-year term with the dynamic business group.
“I want to bring new members to the Chamber and to work with them to learn the importance of marketing their companies. The Chamber was instrumental in helping me grow WireMasters. The contacts and relationships established continue to be invaluable,” said Kent.
Chamber South, located at 6410 SW 80th Street, serves businesses in South Miami, Kendall, Cutler Bay, Pinecrest, Palmetto Bay, and Greater South Dade. The mission of the Chamber is to maintain a leadership role through programs, services and events that will enhance the quality of life and economic well-being of the member communities by working to improve business conditions that strengthen the economic health of the community.
WireMasters arose from Kent’s business of 22 years, KC Electric after the most recent recession’s impact on the original business. He has been able to build up WireMasters by providing service and repairs to existing homes and businesses. Kent believes that the Chamber plus his “can-do” approach have been instrumental in helping him strengthen the new business in just a few years. He lists some of his reasons for success: serving and networking on local boards; watching other successful people and learning from them; making your business stand out in a crowd via marketing (“networking IS marketing”); providing excellent customer service through employee training, reinforcing training, and measuring results (“it is all about the customer”); and by the constant application of ethical standards to maintain an excellent reputation.
“Reputation is about who you are in the business,” said Kent.
The proof of the soundness of Kent’s business ethic and model is borne out by successes such as the company’s remarkable growth, the increase in the number of employees, and by other measurements. WireMasters is the top-rated electrician service in the state of Florida according to Angie’s List.
Kent has been involved with Chamber South for about eight years and has been a member of the Board of Directors for the last three years. He believes he is in great company in the Chamber and says that the President, former South Miami mayor Mary Scott Russell is a big part of the Chamber’s success.
“Mary Scott is well-connected. She always does the right thing, even when no one is watching,” said Kent.
Of Kent, Mary Scott Russell said, “He is a natural leader and inspires people with his enthusiasm. Kent continues to exhibit his dedication to Chamber South. I foresee a stellar year.”
In addition to WireMasters, Kent is involved with greening businesses and homes through his efforts with Mr. Solar and Dr. Solar. He started the Florida Solar Institute to train solar contractors. He is also active in PACE (Property Assessed Clean Energy), an innovative mechanism used to fund energy efficiency and clean energy improvements.
Kent has worked tirelessly in his businesses over the years, but insists that his four children and his family are his number one priority.
“I used to say that I worked for money. Now I say that I work for vacations. I want to spend as much time with my family as I can,” he said.
