PRACTICAL TRENDS FOR WINTER

When it comes to putting that perfect look together, not all that we see on the runway is directly applicable to everyday style; but that doesn’t mean you can’t take some inspiration and make them your own. Coming into winter 2016 we have spotted a couple trends you can try yourself, ones that are surprisingly practical during the colder months. From classic trench coats to the return of the once-disparaged legging, here’s what you should be wearing to stay warm all while looking cool this winter season.

Last winter, we obsessed over the camel coat. It was effortless and matched beautifully with everything from denim to evening wear and everything in between. And though still a highly coveted garment, we find that neutral outerwear has met its proverbial match with this season’s Navy-inspired pea coat.  A classic staple in any wardrobe, the Navy overcoat can be worn casually from day-to-day as well as lending itself as canvas for a beautiful selection of lapel pins or antique brooches.

Instead of packing away your summer wears, this winter we keep our cool summer sundresses out of the depths of the wardrobe and layer them with endless options of velvet, velour, suede, heavy knits, or even a cotton turtleneck. The look of chic slinky summer clothes paired with winter casuals couldn’t be any more Miami.  Embracing a cozy, cool feel, the designers at Celine decided that the re-introduction of leggings as a ready-to-wear garment was a necessity.  As seen on the runway, leggings were styled under dresses and skirts as well as separates paired with trench coats. The ever-present hoop earring still stands as a style staple, also paired with a nice chunky link choker necklace and stacked bangle bracelets.

Keeping a clean silhouette is simple, yet now there is a sense of refined edginess  — a mix of textures and fabrics married to new stylish pairings. We now find that many designers are staying away from fashion norms and are beginning to push the fashion envelope in ways we’ve never seen before. On behalf of SOMI Magazine, we wish everyone a very happy and healthy holiday season, and a very prosperous New Year…
