Local artists team up to create “Life is a Playground” mural.
South Miami’s own Gail Coachman Alexander and area neighbor Ramiro Ramierz joined creative forces to bring LIFE IS A PLAYGROUND to the walls.
For two months this summer, they sketched, outlined and painted the 83 foot wall opposite to the Gibson-Bethel Community Center. Ramirez was joined by his sisters Mayra and Jackie, both of whom recently arrived from Cuba.
“LIFE IS A PLAYGROUND represents people of diverse backgrounds engaging in athletics and special events. It is designed to be inclusive, depicting of males and females of all age groups/conditions and how they connect on the playground,” noted Gail.
Lead artist is Gail Coachman-Alexander a studio glass artist and resident of South Miami. She is a graduate of Bethane-Cookman University with a BA degree in Art, and involved with educational programs in area schools.
Hello John, Excellent presentation of the fall edition! The photo layout is perfect. If there is still time for correction, the college I attended is spelled Bethune-Cookman University in Daytona Beach, Florida. Majored in Art Education.
Also, the information above that was supposed to read : (It is designed to be inclusive) My apology I made that correction too late. You did ask me about that.
Thank you, for recognizing our efforts to highlight the City of South Miami. This is very exciting !
