Dr. Carroll-Scott is one of ten Fellows for 2024, a year dedicated to addressing racial inequities in the Greater Miami area.

The Saltwater Fellowship is a 12-month fellowship combined with a two-year unrestricted grant totaling $100,000. Dr. Carroll-Scott was chosen for her extraordinary work as the Clinic’s Medical Director. As a fellow, she will participate in community-based skills training, equity labs, and coaching and wellness retreats.

“This fellowship is designed by leveraging data and insights about our community’s needs with a goal to bring resources and support to those at the forefront of solutions.” The Miami Foundation.

The Saltwater Fellowship is generously supported by over 150 donors to The Racial Equity Fund at The Miami Foundation. The fund is committed to addressing and eradicating racism in all its forms in Greater Miami.

The doors of the South Miami Children’s Clinic opened on March 22, 2007. Both private and corporate donations helped to bring the clinic to South Miami thanks to Jim and Susan Carr, the Lennar Foundation, and United Healthcare. Dr. Carroll-Scott was the first and only Medical Director of the South Miami Children’s Clinic. She is a board-certified pediatrician practicing for over 20 years. She graduated from Princeton University, Boston University School of Medicine, and the University of Chicago Hospitals and served her internship and residency at Miami Children’s Hospital.

Throughout her career, Dr. Carroll-Scott has been focused on people in need. She believes that improved access to quality healthcare and health education are imperative to the health and well-being of her young patients.  Additionally, she is concerned about treating the whole child and considering all factors in a child’s daily life, from medical, financial, and social, to illiteracy, substance abuse, and housing.  She is dedicated to providing high-quality, wrap-around services/patient care to the over 1,800 patients she treats annually.

The South Miami Children’s Clinic offers medical services to children who are uninsured and insured and residents of South Miami. Insured children from other communities are also welcome at the clinic. Dr. Carroll-Scott’s practice includes telemedicine to improve access to care and reduce after-hours urgent care and emergency room visits for non-emergencies.  The Florida International University neighborhood mobile health van visits the clinic once a week.

“I feel safe, supported, and joyful. Patients are the clinic’s lifeline,” said Dr. Carroll-Scott. About the City of South Miami’s involvement in the clinic, she said that the city generously allows them to use space for the clinic, located near the Bethel Center and they are supportive of her and her staff.

The South Miami Children’s Clinic is open Monday through Friday from 9 AM to 4 PM, Saturday and Sunday by appointment, 305-662-5988. The clinic is located at 6701 SW 58th Place.
