
CITY COMMISSION CONGRATULATES COMMUNITY NEWS FOR ITS EMMY NOMINATION
Miami’s Community Newspapers received an Emmy nomination from the Suncoast Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences for “Untold Valor: The Remarkable Story of a 105-Year-Old Jewish WWII Veteran.” This poignant 10-minute documentary is hosted by Emmy-winning investigative reporter Willard Shepard and shares the powerful journey of Sgt. A RUN FOR THE ROSES – “TRIPLE CROWN” RECOGNITION GIVEN CITY’S CFO
On February 4, 2025, the city presented Alfredo Riverol with a bouquet of red roses to congratulate him on receiving the esteemed Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) Triple Crown Award. This prestigious recognition celebrates his exceptional achievements in financial reporting, budgeting, and transparency, strengthening trust and confidence among both taxpayers and stakeholders.
Receiving the GFOA Triple Crown is a unique distinction, with fewer than 360 public entities across the United States earning this recognition each year. The City of South Miami is proud to be one of only five municipalities in Miami-Dade County to have achieved this honor. A heartfelt appreciation is extended to the city’s finance department for their exceptional work in helping to achieve this prestigious recognition once again.

SOMI MAGAZINE’S 20-YEAR MILESTONE RECOGNIZED BY CITY COMMISSION
On the occasion of achieving its twenty-year mark in promoting the South Miami town center’s business community, the Commission recognized “the steadfast commitment of the magazine as a beacon for our community.” South Miami resident John Edward Smith is the founder, publisher and creative director of SOMI Magazine.
