FALL COLOR TRENDS

In a city where seasons are barely distinguishable, we seem to set the tone by our clothing selection. If you are torturing yourself about which colors to trade your neon yellow and pastel mints for, take a deep breath and relax. What I am about to offer is going to simplify both your search and choice. In this edition we discuss color trends for this fall/winter 2013-2014 season and hopefully help you create a range of saucy and groovy outfits for the chilly season.

When we make the shift from sunny beach weather to mild chilly and rainy days, we find ourselves stuck deeply in fall depression. The only thing capable of saving our world is a couple of hours at the shopping mall. There is nothing else in the universe that has as much power to heal an aching soul as the process of enriching your closet. To make your shopping fruitful and without regret, read on.

CAMOUFLAGE
The urban chameleon blends right in when pairing this season’s “it” textile — camouflage. Alexander Wang, Prabal Gurung, Michael Kors, and Christopher Kane used this trendy print as a highlight of their Fall/Winter 2013-14 runway collections, and Maison Valentino took the trend to the track in his menswear collection.  For a pop of individuality, mix it up withcolor variations as diverse as Mother Nature can offer.  Seek camouflaged prints in earthy khakis or tribal reds. Blue tones add a richer appeal as do collaged furs.  Worn sleek with statement neck pieces or stacked rings, this casual yet trendy look pairs well with gold-toned accessories and can dazzle in either day or night.

METALLIC HUES
were spotted on the runway quite often, too. Givenchy, Gucci, Kenzo, and Saint Laurent apparently made an attempt to make a woman shine even when the sun is hidden behind heavy clouds. You can always rock a coat in classic black or opt for Kenzo’s luxurious creativity and sport a gold one.

NAVY BLUE
replaces all the summer shades of our beloved blue, offering a huge variety of chances to play with color. Navy blue is easy to match and a staple in everyone’s wardrobe. Be it a coat, pants, or a dress, there is always an opportunity to offset the cool darkness of this color by pairing it up with brighter hues. Celine, Chloe, Dries Van Noten, Hermes, Nina Ricci, and Calvin Klein all went full force with this elegant and noble color, and I doubt they cried over their color choice. Delicate ecru perfectly complements rich navy and shouldn’t be missed. Gorgeous skirts, frocks, and coats in this hue floated down the runways of Isabel Marant, Elie Saab, and Stella McCartney. The grayish-white color is incredibly hard to resist, especially when paired with blackened metals or rich, gold-toned accessories.

ECRU
is a perfect compliment to a rich navy and shouldn’t be missed out from your sight line either. Gorgeous skirts, frocks and coats floated down the runways of Isabel Marant, Elie Saab and Stella McCartney. This grayish-white color is incredibly hard to resist, especially when paired with blackened metals or rich gold toned accessories.

BORDEAUX
burgundy, oxblood red, call it what you like; but this fall season there is a red obsession and it shows no sign of slowing. One of the brighter hues of the color trends presented, it definitely deserves your attention. The best way to stay in a good mood through fluctuating fall temperatures and gusty winds is to be on the colorful side. Forget your gloomy black trench coats and jackets; fashion is not about being bland or neutral. Plus, when brands like Burberry Prorsum, Erdem, Marc Jacobs, or L’Wren Scott opt for this color, there shouldn’t be any room for questioning.

As Fall rolls in with a rich pallet, color takes its place as an important wardrobe detail to pay attention to. Now that you’ve been introduced to the trends for the Fall/Winter 2013-14 season, I see no reason for you to postpone the glorious moment. Keep in mind all my tips, good luck and start shopping!
