As we have already discovered, fashion can be very cyclical. This Fall/Winter fashion season, we discuss the influences of Oriental motifs on Western fashion and see how the military trend is getting more and more popular with fashionistas who used to love feminine and delicate designs. The wide variety in fashion trends this season makes it possible for every fashion-conscious girl to find something to her preferred taste. There are sexy, slim-fit trousers and chic baroque designs, youthful pieces inspired by Gothic and romantic floral-printed garments, fancy suits and comfortable knitted sweaters. All these interesting trends let you experiment in the most daring manner if you want to stand out, or wear them in moderation to look stylish but not too risqué.
Prints are now everywhere. And judging by the latest collections from Prada, Miu Miu,Stella McCartney and other notable design houses, the more prints the better. One of the key trends for this Fall/Winter season is leisure suits, which come fully covered with bold, often bright and eye-catching prints. Wear them with either monotone pieces to keep your outfit well-balanced, or pair them with other printed items to make a contrast. The slim-fit trouser is not a new; however, designers believe we can wear them more often during Fall. Sport them with loafers or flats for a comfortable look or with sexy pumps to create a glamorous outfit. Mix-and-match your leisure suit with a slim-fit trouser for a classic Hepburn look that will keep heads turning. Simple layering of thin gold chains with accenting studs or a notable lapel-pin for an evening out on the town will turn any classic pantsuit into the night’s conversation piece.
Oriental fashion with its extensive use of luxurious fabrics and huge attention to detail has always been attractive for Western fashionistas. We like unusual colors, vibrant prints and immaculate tailoring as much as we like the fact that Asian style can look sexy and seductive without showing too much. Included in the mix is the use of floral prints. Diane von Furstenberg, Erdem, and McQ by Alexander McQueen exemplify the trend by displaying the proper way to wear Fall florals. Unlike the floral prints which reigned during summer, the new ones are less showy and fussy. They are more sophisticated and reserved. Paired with a classic pearl strand or artisanal necklace, your floral look will be unique and fresh. Add a pair of leather gloves for a more dramatic Fall flair.
Incredibly beautiful and much-adorned garments are rather rare, but we have seen many of these Gothic, Baroque, and military inspirations gilded with intricate designs popping up on the runway recently. Dolce & Gabbana, Oscar de la Renta, Lanvin and Balmain are just a few labels which made such beauty possible. Gothic trends inspire many collections nowadays, but it has become a prominent theme during this season. Black leather and velvet, long silhouettes, cross detailing and lace are just a few characteristics of this style. Leather is always in fashion but usually trendier during the approaching colder seasons. For Fall, designers have created a wide range of leather garments, but they focused on making coats and skirts more sexy and stylish. Total leather looks are also very popular. The usage of heavy link bracelets and short necklaces adds an industrial chic appeal to an all-leather look.
It might still be warm in our sunny little community, but the Fall trends bring a hot new look to a soon chilly fall season. To keep a keen eye on trending styles and runway looks for upcoming seasons, turn to SOMI Magazine or online at SOMIMAG.com.
