PROPOSED NEW US1 DEVELOPMENT

The City of South Miami is in the process of reviewing an application for the redevelopment of a 5.37-acre site (a/k/a “Petco Center”) at US1 & SW 62 Avenue.

The application with necessary enabling legislation would convert the existing 1950s one story multi-tenant shopping center of 71,842 sq.ft., into an 8-story mixed use project containing 395,695 sq.ft. of gross floor area: 50,056 of ground floor grocery, restaurant and retail uses; 284 rental apartments, 481 parking spaces and 7 loading spaces; landscaping, public spaces and a public park.

The project will be reviewed by the Planning Board with recommendations passed on to the City Commission for their further consideration. SOMI Magazine will provide our readers with periodic updates.


PHASE II UPDATE 

The Hammock Trail is underway. Construction for the second phase of The Underline has begun. This second segment of the 10-mile linear park and trail is 2.14-miles long and will start from SW 13th Street extending to SW 19th Avenue. It will connect The Underline through the Vizcaya Metrorail Station and The Roads and Silver Bluff neighborhoods.

The Underline Phase 2 is being designed and built by a local team made up of Lead Engineering Contractors and landscape architect GSLA Design. This segment of The Underline will add over 100,000 new native plants and trees. Go online for more detailed information: www.theunderline.org
