Margaux Interiors is operated by the mother-daughter team of Margarita Courtney and Cristina Courtney Boland. The shop, a lovely respite that is a delight to the eye and kind to the senses, offers full in-house custom interior decorating services. They have been located in downtown South Miami for 25 years.
Margarita began the business in a 500 square-foot space at Bayside in 1988, later moving to South Miami.
“I discovered I had a passion for this sort of thing,” said Margarita who prides herself on being a self-taught interior decorator, primarily. Cristina’s background includes working in New York for companies such as Bergdorf Goodman and ABC Carpet and Home. She added that experience to her mother’s business when she returned to Miami in 2000.
“It has always been great to work with my mother, and we have such nice clientele here,” said Cristina.
Margarita owes her success in the business to keeping things simple and elegant. The palette of light colors, with soft whites, blues and aqua are often punched-up with coral or orange accents. The shop carries furnishings, accessories and one-of-a-kind accents based on their philosophy of simplicity.
Margarita adds that in addition to the elegant designs there is another component to the shop’s success–listening to the client.
“I go with the taste of the client,” said Margarita.
She and Cristina travel to Paris, India and Thailand to find unusual pieces that fit their signature look.
Margaux Interiors offers a preliminary in-home visit, custom presentation, and custom design and furnishings plan for the client. Service includes being present the day the furnishings arrive in the client’s home. The range of service consists of color/paint consultation, custom floor plan, furniture and accessory selection and placement, and custom kitchen and bathrooms.
Quoted in a recent Miami Herald article, Cristina said, “Our goal is for people to feel good in their homes. We don’t want things to be too precious.”

Their design library allows the client to customize one-of-a-kind furniture and upholstery pieces, with extensive fabrics and finish options.
