The UNDERLINE comes to South Miami.
Just in case you’re not fully “in the know,” SOMIonline is giving you background on The Underline project along the 10-mile trail under the Miami Metrorail from Brickell to Dadeland. Under construction since the ground-breaking in the Brickell area in late 2018, the last 7 miles are in the works. The City of South Miami has one mile of the project within our boundaries, which I refer to as “the SOMI mile.” When finished in late 2026, The Underline is geared to create vibrant, inclusive public spaces that promote wellness, creativity, and community connection. Beyond being a linear park, it will transform the entire area into a global destination that serves as a catalyst for community revitalization and connectivity.
Here in our SOMI town center, we’ll be experiencing some transformational changes as the AvalonBay Communities apartment building will have its tenants moving in late August. The developer has also acquired the properties on Dorn Avenue and plans are to build another 16-story apartment building there as well. More residents will be living in our town center district and that will be good for local businesses.
Read about these exciting developments and other happenings in the area in our What’s New in Town feature.
Kudos to the city’s Community Affairs office which put together its first SoMi Biz Social, providing an occasion for business owners to network among each other and the city administration. Another activity which Community Affairs is organizing is the month-long “Taste of SoMi” this July, which will feature special pricing at participating eateries for breakfast, lunch and dinner, and also at area retailers and service providers.
And join SOMI Magazine at the annual July 4th extravaganza presented by the City of South Miami at Palmer Park.
Enjoy the start of the summer, and good wishes to us all as we keep an eye on the tropics this hurricane season.
All the best!
