BRING ON FALL

As we literally weather through the afternoon rains and high humidity of our usual oppressive summer months, we eagerly await the transition to what we will enjoy for a few months to come. Bring it on!!

In this issue we recognize the sisters from Garcia Nevett Chocolatiers de Miami for their outstanding success as a top fine chocolatier in the United States, voted #3 in USA Today survey. It’s important to note they shine a light on our unique hometown district which we have here in SoMi. We have so many terrific specialty shops, dining and entertainment experiences for residents and visitors to enjoy. In this you’ll get a glimpse into what’s new around town for you to explore as well.

Congratulations to the City of South Miami’s special events and marketing team working out of the manager’s office and doing such a great job promoting our business community. The SOMI Second Saturdays Night Market was selected as the 2025 “Community Event of the Year” by the Greater Miami Festivals and Events Association. Great job! We’re all looking for the Second Saturday’s program to crank up again this October for another seasonal run.

Active discussions among the city commission to better utilize and activate the city’s parking garage rooftop are ongoing with presentations from both soccer and padel ball entities. Follow SOMIonline Magazine and our periodic SOMIblast as the discussions develop over these coming months.<br>

We wrap up our SOMIonline Lifestyle Magazine Volume XX with this edition, and we look forward to sharing with you the next chapter in promoting our unique and special “hometown” SOMI.

In Volume XXI, we’ll be focusing on the SOMI DECADE OF DEVELOPMENT. There are so many projects under review and coming online over the next ten years. South Miami, rooted in history, is poised to appreciate the start of its second one hundred years. And being an “old railroad town” from the 1920s, over this coming year we’ll be following The Underline and SOMI’S ONE MILE. See the magazine’s exclusive look at the progress and development in each SOMIonline issue in this coming year.

All the best this fall and looking forward to a wonderful time to give thanks and celebration.

We went to see the thoroughly enjoyable production of TARZAN at AREA STAGE. They do such a great production in their small theatre. I was especially delighted to see a family seated across from us; the two young kids sat in the front row next to the stage and were magically immersed in the action. So good to see parents exposing their children to this like this. Can’t wait for ANNIE coming later this year.

BRINGING ON DETROIT STYLE PIZZA
Max B., Palmetto Bay

I’ve heard about Vice City Pizza out in Kendall. It is good that the owner Jorgie Ramos has now opened at his Bar Bella in South Miami. We met up with him and his pizza chef Carlos when grabbing a pizza and a absolutely awesome chicken parmigiana. Bar selections are also great!

NO LONGER A SECRET
Peter L., Miami

In your last issue I read about this restaurant coming into the old Khouy’s space on 73 Street. I had frequented Khoury’s Mediterranean Restaurant over many, many years in the area. The transformation of the space into Secreto, a well-known restaurant in Kendall is stunning. The owners have created a new fine-dining experience in South Miami. The food and service was well appreciated. Nice job! I’ll be back and telling my friends – the secret in out!

READER’S COMMENTS

As a brand creator and graphic designer, I couldn’t help but notice the “SoMi District” image. It looks like a tooth! Are you all promoting new dental services or what?! What a limp presentation.! I hope you move to something else as your area is really coming online with the Heatherwick project at Sunset Place – which will be a stunning and transformational project.

I saw where you were recognized for the SOMI SECOND SATURDAYS event as the Community Event of the Year by the Greater Miami Festivals and Events Association (GMFEA) 12th Annual Conference. Congratulations on producing this event in South Miami.

I understand Deli Lane and what used to be called Your Father’s Moustache (now Sunse Tavern) are being replaced by another massive apartment building right on our fabled tree-lined and brick paved street. I’m afraid we’re losing our quaint charm. I hope the builders keep our brick sidewalks – they have such great appeal.
