The days of summer here in South Miami are ushered in with the annual 5K Walk/Run sponsored by South Miami Hospital and presented by Team FootWorks, with fond memories of “Papa” Hans Huseby. The post-race party you know and love will be back in 2022! And after the COVID disruptions, the July Fourth festivities return to Palmer Park. See you there.
Our cover feature is a showcase of South Miami’s historic architecture in our town center. Originally published in 2012, a couple of properties have newer improvements that are not incorporated into the article.
We now have an Inn in town. Check out our SOMI Town Center NEWS on pages 30 and 31 for info on this and other happenings. Experience two new businesses which are highlighted in our “New Places & New Faces” article on page 33. And while new businesses open in town, others are inordinately delayed by Miami Dade County DERM (Dept of Environmental Resources Management). One prospective new business has been on hold for four months! COVID, now this other “Red Tape” plague!
New residential units are opening on 74 Street, and we welcome new patrons to shop and dine in SOMI. And there’s again growing anticipation of the pending opening of the iconic FOX’S Lounge at its old location on US1.
