Jorgie Ramos is always stirring and mixing things up in the kitchen and throughout the area with his list of culinary successes in Dadeland, Kendall, Coral Gables and then to SoMi this past year when he opened BarBella, named after this daughter Annabella, where there’s a gastronomic synergy between midwest BBQ x Spanish tapas.

Jorgie had been thinking about opening his popular Vice City Pizza in the former Ceviche Lovers location across the street, however as he’s reported to SOMI Magazine that plan didn’t work and “it’s time to hit the pause button on Bar Bella and get ready for a fun summer in SoMi with a Vice City Pizza pop-up.” And not to worry, he notes, “fear not! Abi Maria, the back bar will remain open serving cocktails and tapas.”

Our hometown district will be enjoying some other new eateries coming into town. Notably the restaurant Secreto and the mega-hit Skinny Louie Smash’d Burgers. Check out our What’s New in Town feature in this issue to learn about other eateries now open.

As we go to print, a new restaurant on 73rd Street is in the final stages of getting ready to open in the former Khoury’s Mediterranean Restaurant site. Khoury’s was a big favorite in town for decades and the Khoury’s are enjoying a well-deserved retirement. Coming there will be SECRETO. Since 2009, Secretp has built its culinary reputation with a blend of exotic Latin flavors with the essence of Italian cuisine, which is their “secret.”

Selections from their menu.

Coming to the happening US1 corridor is the phenom fast-food hangout, Skinny Louie, popular for its smash’d burgers and milkshakes.

Read more about these new eateries in our fall edition and enjoy a SOMI exclusive sit-down with Italian chef Marco Giugliano , who brings Italian tradition with innovation at his sophisticated  Mano Libera restaurant on 59 Avenue, former site of Mosaico by Maurizio Farinelli.
