As SOMI magazine was going to print, a new eatery in town had its quiet opening. CORTEZA, an independent restaurant located in the courtyard of United Community Bank at 5760 Sunset Drive, features crafted dishes to highlight Mediterranean flavors with a modern touch and focuses on high quality proteins and seafood, including a signature picanha and a special Sunday paella.

With harmonious interior design and alfresco courtyard dining, an exceptional wine selection, and a refined ambient sound come together to create a truly unique dining experience.

The next new eatery is located at 73 Street and US 1, where AVO Miami expands from its celebrated Miami Beach location to South Miami. Known for its innovative fusion of Mediterranean-inspired cuisine with a modern twis, the restaurant prides itself on using only the freshest, locally sourced ingredients, ensuring each dish is not only delicious but also sustainable. With a menu that features everything from tantalizing appetizers to exquisite main courses, AVO provides a dining experience that is both sophisticated and inviting.

No date has been set for AVO Miami’s opening. Stay turned to SOMIonline magazine for details.
Coming to South Miami at the site of the former Sushi Maki at 5812 Sunset Drive is BORED CUBAN, a fast-casual dining concept – inspired by a Bored Ape Yacht Club ape. At the Bored Cuban, they bring a contemporary take on Miami-style Cuban cuisine. With two other locations, they serve breakfast and an all-day menu featuring, among other dishes, Cuban-inspired pizzas. As we go to press, the location is still being built out. No date has been set for the opening.

And further down Sunset on the corner location where Spris Artisan Pizza was located comes the first “brick and mortar” local enterprise run by two sisters HONEYVEIL CAFÉ & BAKERY at 5748 Sunset Drive.

The sweet start up got underway in October 2024 with a stand at a local farmers market. Early this year, the sisters graduated to a custom-designed trailer that became the new heart of Honeyveil.
Matcha is the specialty with such items as the Blue Babe Matcha and the Brunei Dirty Matcha. A Banana Bread Matcha is the current special flavor.
Other than dancing on the street, no word yet on when Honeyveil in South Miami will open its doors. The big reveal should be real soon.

On the north side of Sunset Drive at 5845 is the announced coming of EL PRIMO. Popular in downtown Miami, El Primo celebrates “Tijuana-Style Birria Done Right,” where bold flavor meets birria perfection. Known for their vibrant Red Tacos, they also serve up everything from the cheesy Quisiera and umami-packed Birriamen to loaded nachos, El Primo is a celebration of Mexican flavors and a growing reputation and 2023 award for “Best Tacos in Miami.” No date for the opening, stay tuned to SOMIonline.
