Bringing Tradition and Technology Together
From SWENSEN’S to the One on Sunset
The legacy of Swensen’s was left in good hands when the landlord turned the keys over to Patricia & Dimitris Harvalis after the restaurant closing in April. The couple have fully embraced what made Swensen’s so special for many decades and introducing new favors and creations of Chef Dimitris.
Swensen’s Grill & Ice Cream Parlor was a fixture on US1 since it opened in 1977. The streetscape also included Spec’s Music. Those were the days. Generations of kids will recall mom and dad bringing them to Swensen’s for a special treat!
The chain is based in San Francisco with franchise locations across the United States. The once popular restaurant chain seemed to wane. However, the South Dixie Hwy location was privately owned and seemed to withstand the test of time.
Dimitris is an established restaurateur who has been in the business for the past 31 years. He is the owner/operator of Elia Café in Miami and in the Pinecrest Community Center. He has opened six restaurants and is particularly enthusiastic about preserving the legacy while introducing ”technology into nostalgic space” in The One on Sunset. Guests will place orders on the ipad server at each table. Some Swensen’s favorites are on the menu, coupled with new creations by Dimitris. And yes, there’s 23 flavors of ice cream and gelato, including sugar free and vegan.
So come on back to 1586 S. Dixie Highway and make some new fond memories.
