On February 1, 2026, the 68th Annual Grammy Awards honored the best recordings, compositions, and artists from August 31, 2024, to August 30, 2025, as chosen by the members of the Recording Academy.

South Miami Senior High School Band director Jennifer Jimenez won a Grammy and recognized with the 2026 Music Educator Award.

On February 17, the South Miami City Commission recognized that achievement. In speaking to the commission and audience, Jennifer noted that the selection process was very rigorous five-step process. It began months earlier with over 2,000 initial nominations from 50 states. That number was pared down to 256 quarter finalists, then 25 semi-finalists and then 10 finalists.

Jimenez said. “I am grateful for the light this recognition shines on our extraordinary school.” She was recognized for the transformative impact on students and her many years of dedication to the South Miami community. In addition to the award, Jimenez received a $10,000 honorarium and a matching $10,000 grant for the South Miami Senior High School music program.

Jimenez, who currently is in her 19th year as band director at South Miami Senior High School, is a Kennedy Center Sondheim Inspirational Teaching Award winner and a previous Grammy Music Educator Award finalist.

Boosting her students’ confidence and abilities to thrive not just in band class but in life, Jimenez’s philosophy has produced remarkable results. Under her leadership, the Cobra Band program has flourished, with her high standards culminating in student performances at Carnegie Hall and two Super Bowls.
