SPRING IS IN THE WEAR

New Year, new season, new you!  That means a slight wardrobe update that hits all of 2017’s major spring trends. We don’t dismiss the basics we covered last year, but this season it’s a bit more of an evolved look rather than a complete fashion overhaul. The core elements are still there — the khaki textiles and no-nonsense attitude that pairs with statement accessories — but there’s a more polished flair, clean form, shape, and a more playful highlight to the classic silhouettes we have come to see on the catwalk.

Just like every season, designers task themselves with reinventing everyone’s most essential work wear staple. The button-down shirt has been deconstructed this spring, with styles ranging from one-shoulder split-shirt tops to shirtdresses with graphic lines, and oversize shapes with extended sleeves. The revamping of a classic piece is inevitable, and its utilitarian ways keep it polished and chic while exuding its new essence in style. Chic examples were spotted on the runways of Jacquemus and Monse.  There’s more to trend setting in 2017 than the standard khaki textile we’ve come to know all too well; classic styles like trench coats and Culottes still stand yet there are oversize cargo pockets incorporated, some in far more boxier shapes than expected, and potato sack topped pants equipped with drawstring cords and toggles the likes of the ones we spotted at Marni and Stella McCartney.

The fashion gods have spoken and at the top of this season’s trend report are statement earrings worth coveting. Decadent and exuberant ear candy worth their weight in social media gold is where it’s at. Earrings made a bold statement, and the feel of oversized chandelier style earrings are ones worth the admiration.  From the cascading floral bouquets at Delpozo dropping down to the shoulders to the oversized curly-queued macaroni shaped hoop earrings at Altuzzara, statement earrings dazzled above and beyond.

If 2016 was the year of the choker, 017 is the year of the long pendant. Prada and Givenchy married oversized interlocking chain links and large charms or an array of charms to create a layered, home-grown effect. The gaudiness of ‘80s style will always shine through in any heavy gold piece with pops of colors and large stones, amulets and charms.  The layering of rings whether minimal or flaunty is still all the rage. The layered look of statement rings was coined by Gucci’s creative director a couple of seasons ago and has shown major signs of growing popularity.

Keeping your savvy, styled eyes open for fun opportunities for self-expression is what fashion is all about. Prioritizing individuality when dressing is always key; whether you’re keeping it simple or piling it all on. A fresh and polished look is what will make your fashion-forward style timeless and always the topic of conversation.
