The Underline is the name given to THE project to create a 10-mile urban trail and linear park from the Miami River to Dadeland South

The Underline On The Move.
Since Friends of The Underline held their second set of public meetings last June, they have been busy reaching out the community, finishing the master plan, and raising funds to begin construction as quickly as possible in the Brickell area, the northern end of the 10-mile corridor from the Miami River to Dadeland South.

Last September, you could find Underline board members giving bike tours to members of the American Planning Association, speaking at their annual conference and receiving the award as “Winner of the APA Florida’s Outstanding Public Interest Group.”  They also presented at a recent, CREW Miami real estate advocacy luncheon, sharing The Underline’s potential positive impact on real estate values along the 10-mile corridor. Then, The Underline, Books & Books and No Boundaries took over six Coral Gables parking spaces and turned them into a park on Friday, Sept. 18th, international PARKing Day.

Businesses along the future Underline are getting excited, advocating, and raising funds to support the non-profit group.  Building.co, Miami’s newest collaborative workspace located near Metrorail’s Brickell Station at 8th Street raised funds for The Underline at their grand opening on Sept. 17th. The next week, Bottle & Bottega celebrated their grand opening at 27th Avenue with silent auction and raffle proceeds directed to the non-profit group.

What to look for next?  You can attend the final Underline master plan public where the design team will unveil the framework plan and Brickell Backyard and UM Colonnade demonstration projects on November 9th at 6 PM.  Visit www.theunderline.org and Eventbrite for more information and to sign up.

Also, Friends of The Underline are excited to be participating in WHEELS-2015 November 11-15,  featuring five days of events and activities to demonstrate a car-optional Miami focused on biking and mass transit. South Miami serves as home base for everything from fun bike rides to a free street party on Dorn Avenue (59 Avenue).
