FRENCH BAKERY OPENS ITS DOORS
SOMI welcomed French pastry Chef Franck Monnier in early September as he opened Cecile Bakery + Café on Sunset Drive.  Monnier is the founder of L’Atelier Gourmet.  From an early age, he was given the opportunity to gain experience from 3-Star Michelin restaurants and worked alongside famous pastry chef Pierrre Hermé, referred to as the “Picasso of Patisserie.”   Monnier has earned numerous awards including L’Academie Culinaire de France.  Throughout his career, he managed pastry departments within Four Seasons Hotels in many countries, appreciating the needs of luxury establishments. SOMI’s Cecile Bakery is the only establishment where you can purchase Monnier’s pastries; other locations in Miami only bear his name and are not proprietary.

Cecile is open 7 days, and serves brunch every day. In addition to his sought-after pastries, Cecile has salads and sandwiches, handmade gelato and sorbets, smoothies, jams, cookies and of course, macarons.

CHEF Franck & Veronica Monnier
Franck and Veronica have lived in the South Miami area for the past 17 years. Cecile Bakery + Café is named after their daughter.  The SOMI location interior spaces were designed by local artist Aida Tejada and collaboratively installed
by Monnier and his wife Veronica over three months.

In Ramen Asian Street Eatery recently opened on 73rd Street on the street level of the Municipal Garage. It’s a fun new place and an entirely
new way to order your food.  Take a seat, sign into the WiFi,
check out the digital menu and order.

With stunning murals by local artist Ivan Roque and open seating, the three chefs Johnny H.K., Bill Jiang and David Jiang offer you ten signature ramen dishes.  From Southeast China, the three have worked together for years in New York and elsewhere.  This is their first concept and it’s off to a great start.

Julie Off Sunset
In mid-July, Julie Allen, who for 33 years worked as stylist with Robert Perry Images on 58 Court, put new love into the small space when Perry retired.  Known as “rock ‘n roll Julie” she loves the great hair of rocker Billy Squier, a featured poster in her new and remodeled space.  The catch phrase “we repair bad haircuts” is still a calling card. Just hair, no nails, etc.

GOING GREEN…
All Things CBD is the latest entry of like-minded businesses in town which are populating vacant store fronts as cannabis products become
more available and in demand.

A Colorado couple, Sharyl & Eugeny (although Sharyl is originally from the Kendall area), opened All Things CBD on November 1st.  They operate two shops in resort areas in Colorado.  Referring to their store as an “apothecary” they are looking to break the mold of the MJ bars, and offer main stream products in a boutique setting. 7225 SW 57 Court | 786.452.2954

On the list of other businesses opened in South Miami are:

The U Tobacco Shop, 5827 Sunset Drive | 305.397.8154
Miracle Leaf Medical Center, 5881 Sunset Drive | 786.953.8026
Living Earth, 5872 Sunset Drive | 786.542.5342
Green Treets, 6108 South Dixie Hwy | 786.452.8996

And word has it, South Miami will make history and have its own marijuana dispensary right on our main street, and in an historic building.  Stay tuned…
