NOW THAT’S ITALIAN!

Hailing from Staten Island, New York, Michael D’Andrea is bringing the family’s culinary tradition to his new location on Sunset Drive in SOMI.

Michael was raised in the New York borough, where his parents owned and operated The RoadHouse restaurant for forty-five years, opening in 1971.  He was schooled in the culinary traditions from where his grandparents came from in Italy: the region of Campania and southern Italy’s Palermo.

Michael moved to Miami and opened Macaluso’s on South Beach on June 28, 1999.  The restaurant is named after his mother Josephine Mary “JoAnne” Macaluso.

It was from there that he served up the famed meatballs and much more, like his clam pizza, to neighborhood folks, tourists and celebrities like Tom Cruise and Kim Kardashian.  He expanded his concept to include an Italian market.

Earlier this year, and afrer nineteen years on the beach at 1747 Alton Road, he bid farewell and posted on his facebook: “So with great honor, I say goodbye to Miami Beach. Thank you for allowing me to serve my family’s amazing recipes from Staten Island, New York. Macaluso’s / Macaluso’s & Co. will start a NEW chapter this summer!”

The new South Miami market opened as the magazine went to press.  It’s evident with the family pictures on the walls, the Blessed Virgin statue and candles, the Michael revers his family and respects the traditions of many generations. “There’s going to be a lot of love here,”
exclaims Michael.

“Come to shop,” says Michael.  At the market, customers can purchase, their cakes, canolis,  sauces, meatballs (2 in a jar), hand-made sausages, breads and much more.  Customers can purchase a salad with the bottled dressing on the side, so it’s just right to eat when getting home and preparing dinner. There’s room for customers to sit and eat as well.

Michael’s plans are to open a Macaluso’s Restaurant in South Miami as well as the market.

The retail shop market is open Tuesday – Sunday from 12n – 6p.  Seating at the market is on a first-come, first-serve basis.  Come by and order up some traditional Italian dishes.

A KIDS SALON & PARTY PLACE

Two families in search of a place to have their own childrens’ haircut, decided on opening their own salon built for kids, with a popular franchise opportunity.

Planning and in construction for over a year, with an interruption by Hurricane Irma, PIGTAILS & CREWCUTS opened in July on US1 and 80th Street. The owners sought out a location which was convenient and had parking – a top priority.

Kids come first at Pigtails & Crewcuts, grab a cool vehicle chair, pick out a video and settle in for a trim as our kid-friendly staff work their magic. Owned by parents, the concept behind this salon is simple: getting a
haircut should be fun!  The goal is to make the salon experience enjoyable for everyone—for customers large and small.

Kids love looking at our whimsical art, playing with our wooden train table and, when the trim is done, paying a visit to our packed-with-adventure treasure chest. And parents love relaxing in an environment where every child—smiling or crying—is welcomed with open arms. With an array of unique, kid-centric hair products and a retail section packed with adorable hair accessories, gifts and more, Pigtails & Crewcuts is here for the whole family’s hair and beauty needs.

The kids salon is open Monday-Friday 10a-6p; Saturday 9a-5p; Sunday 11a-5p. 6448 South Dixie Hwy. | 786.899.0350 |
