Headed up by the co-founder of Pandora, the world\u2019s largest jewelry company, Danish business developer and strategic visionary, Ren\u00e9 Sindlev and his wife, Patrizia Manici Sindlev, an Italian model, actress and architect, Dr. Smood has been in development with an extensive R&D team for a year and one-half in Europe.\u00a0 With\u00a0Patrizia\u2019s interest in healthy living, good tasting food, beauty and aesthetics\u00a0and Ren\u00e9\u2019s\u00a0successful business acumen they decided to create Dr. Smood \u2013 the first smart food\u00a0boutique caf\u00e9\u00a0specializing in health beneficial organic food and beverage.<\/p>\n

The menu and products are presented in\u00a0five color-coded categories: immune,\u00a0energy, general health, beauty, detox\u00a0and super power.<\/p>\n

Dr. Smood offers four detox program levels, mindful teas, organic espresso beans and both pre- and post-cleanse menus, juices, boosters and supplements, sandwiches, breakfasts and salads.\u00a0 There are green juices, fruit juices, shakes and \u201csmoodys,\u201c raw soups and organic power pastries.<\/p>\n

Italian attorney and partner Francesco Perillo of Milan, responsible for business development, chose the SOMI location to launch the USA retail operations.\u00a0 Coincidental with the brand\u2019s opening of the South Miami location, Dr. Smood has a store in Wynwood, two locations in the works on Miami Beach and Brickell, and six locations planned in New York City.\u00a0 Perillo notes: \u201cThe charm of South Miami presented itself as the right place with a nice vibe for us to\u00a0launch Dr. Smood.\u201d<\/p>\n

The PILATES IN THE GROVE<\/strong> brand\u00a0opened a satellite facility in South Miami\u00a0in late December.<\/p>\n

Business owner Christa Gurka was raised in Coconut Grove, going to Ransom Everglades, and was introduced to pilates while in Physical Therapy classes at the University of Miami where she received her baccalaureate degree in Health Science (1996). She opened Pilates on the Beach in 2008,\u00a0and subsequently opened Pilates in the\u00a0Grove in 2010, and now opened her South Miami location.\u00a0 (The beach location\u00a0was sold in 2012.)<\/p>\n

In her work she realized fitness to be applied to physical therapy and has spent the majority of her career working as a physical therapist\u00a0in outpatient orthopedics.<\/p>\n

Christa has twelve clinical staff dedicated to both locations, offering group classes of seven clients max, private sessions and physical therapy. Her staff are highly skilled, certified instructors with many years of experience, not only with training in pilates but some also as physical therapists and massage therapists.\u00a0 Of her services, Christa comments: \u201cwe offer a warm and intimate environment with small group class sizes affording our clients individualized attention that cannot be replicated in a big-box gym.\u201d<\/p>\n

Frontgate, a luxury furnishings retailer, recently opened a 23,000\u00a0square-foot outlet at The Shops at Sunset Place, in a space that was previously inactive for years in the open-air center.<\/p>\n

Frontgate was the first tenant announced at The Shops at Sunset Place since it was acquired in October for $110.2 million by a joint venture between Federal Realty Investment Trust, Grass River Property and\u00a0Comras Company.<\/p>\n

Michael Comras, quoted in the South Florida Business Journal (11\/19\/15) noted: \u201cAdding a top-tier brand like Frontgate at Sunset Place will enhance our shopper’s experience at the center, generate more consumer foot traffic, and create new jobs\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n

Frontgate is located at the far corner end of the center on US1.<\/p>\n

CHANGING HANDS<\/h3>\nKihjuana Mack\n

KIJANA Salon & Blow Dry Ba<\/b>r recently opened in the former D&L Hair Studio at Plaza 57 on 57th Court.\u00a0 This is a second location owned by Kihjuana Mack, with her first in Coral Gables at 2603 Ponce de Leon.\u00a0 Kihjuana grew up in the salon business in Oakland, California, working at her aunt\u2019s salon and her great grandmother was a hairdresser.\u00a0 In pursuing her career she worked in some Napa Valley spas for some ten years before moving to Miami.\u00a0 Style and fashion conscious, she also has\u00a0modelling experience.<\/p>\n

Over the course of many years, several cigar stores opened and closed on the\u00a0corner of US1 & Sunset Drive.\u00a0 CIGARS AT SUNSET<\/b> is the latest venture in the showcase space of the historic Dorn Brothers building and is off to a fast and\u00a0very knowledgeable start.<\/p>\nBenny Gomez, Luis Sanchez, Unnamed Indian with Light Sabre, Jackie Capin & Alex Herrera.\n

A partnership team of deeply-rooted cigar producers and industry professionals\u00a0with a combined knowledge of some eighty years in the industry has acquired the two-story space.\u00a0 The team is comprised of Alex Herrada,\u00a0Luis \u201cThe Mad Scientist\u201d Sanchez, Benny Gomez and Jackie Capin.<\/p>\n

LE ROYAL FRENCH BAKERY<\/b>
\nFor the past fifteen years, brothers Didier and Pascal served up\u00a0French baguettes and pastries at their location in the \u201cblue mall\u201d on Red Road.\u00a0 They sold Le Royal on December 1st to Corina Lujan, a native Venezuelan.\u00a0 Corina is a pastry chef with her certification from the French Culinary Institute in New York City (2009) and her degree from Johnson & Wales (2013).\u00a0 Prior to coming to the States, she had a catering business in Venezuela, with a concentration on desserts and wedding cakes.<\/p>\n

She likes the rustic feel of the store, and will look to introduce more modern colors.\u00a0 She\u2019ll keep the name, change up the logo and prepare more cakes, sweets, muffins and pies.<\/p>\n
