The Underline is the name given to THE project to create a 10-mile urban trail and linear park from the Miami River to Dadeland South.\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n

Friends of The Underline a 501(c)(3) non-profit advocating to transform the underutilized land below Miami\u2019s Metrorail into a 10-mile linear park, urban trail and canvas for artistic expression are gearing up for a busy year full of fun activities and events to keep the community exciting about the future Underline.\u00a0<\/i><\/p>\n

Public Transit Day Underline Lunch<\/p><\/div>\n

As 2016 concludes and we enter a new year of hope and possibilities, Friends of The Underline thank you, the community and SOMI Magazine (in particular, publisher & creative director JohnEdward Smith) for ongoing enthusiasm and support of\u00a0 THE UNDERLINE project.<\/p>\n

As you know, we have accomplished much this year but have so much more to do.\u00a0 Here\u2019s what to look for from Friends of The Underline during December and January.<\/p>\n

Friday, December 9th.\u00a0 11:30-2 PM, Brickell Metrorail Station. Take the pledge to take Public Transit during #publictransitday.\u00a0 Bring your own or pick up a box lunch at a participating Public Transit Day restaurant and enjoy great conversation, music and food with friends, families, colleagues and elected officials as we discuss how to strengthen public transit in Miami.\u00a0 Sign up on Eventbrite.<\/p>\n

\nUnderline ArtPlace America Reception & Unveiling 2-5 PM<\/p>\n

Join us for a free opening reception and unveiling of temporary participatory artwork along the future Underline. Funded with a generous grant from\u00a0ArtPlace America<\/strong>, Miami-Dade County Parks, Recreation and Open Spaces and Cultural Affairs\u2019 Art in Public Places Departments have teamed with Friends of The Underline to engage the community in four public art installations through April 1st.<\/p>\n

Bhakti Baxter,\u00a0Metro Flower Power<\/strong>,<\/i>\u00a0unique live floral planting arrangements inside 8 Metrorail stations including South Miami.<\/p>\n

Naomi Fisher,\u00a0#PUZZLED<\/i><\/strong>,\u00a0 participatory sculpture activated by ballet dancers to create unique performances.<\/p>\n

Nicolas Lobo,\u00a0A Sculpture to Shape the Body<\/i><\/strong>,\u00a0a mobile exercise station and sculpture and critique of self-improvement. Various locations.
