An aerial rendering of South Miami Hospital’s Healing Garden demonstrates how the Garden will live adjacent to The Underline’s trail, offering lush greenery and a welcoming space for the community to gather.

We are excited to share the plans for South Miami Hospital’s Healing Garden coming soon next to the future Underline in South Miami. Located adjacent to the future urban trail in the hospital’s East Tower Building, the idea of the Healing Garden grew from Baptist Health South Florida’s partnership with Friends of The Underline and “will help to advance our shared goal of promoting health and well-being in South Florida by providing inviting spaces for our community to enjoy. Specifically we hope the Healing Garden at South Miami Hospital will become an urban oasis of peace and tranquility,“ says Brian Keeley, president and chief executive officer, Baptist Health South Florida.

The stone pavement and Oolite benches provide a serene walkway for the community to enjoy carefully selected trees and plants that include native vegetation.

The target date for the Garden’s completion is early 2018 with construction taking place this fall. “Expect a lush open, tranquil space with native vegetation that will be open to the public for yoga, educational health programs, or just a moment of peace during your busy day,” says Lincoln Mendez, chief executive officer, South Miami Hospital.

Improving community health, with a focus on active transportation and fitness programming, is one of the key goals of The Underline. That’s why Friends of The Underline board member Jessi Berrin says, “The Underline is a game-changer for the South Florida community. By transforming 10-miles of underutilized land below Metrorail into a linear park and urban trail, residents will move more, play more and will be healthier and more connected to community and each other.”
