Hailing from Staten Island, New York, Michael D\u2019Andrea is bringing the family\u2019s culinary tradition to his new location on Sunset Drive in SOMI.<\/p>\n

Michael was raised in the New York borough, where his parents owned and operated The RoadHouse restaurant for forty-five years, opening in 1971.\u00a0 <\/span>He was schooled in the culinary traditions from where his grandparents came from in Italy: the region of Campania and southern Italy\u2019s Palermo.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Michael moved to Miami and opened Macaluso\u2019s on South Beach on June 28, 1999.\u00a0 <\/span>The restaurant is named after his mother Josephine Mary \u201cJoAnne\u201d Macaluso.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

It was from there that he served up the famed meatballs and much more, like his clam pizza, to neighborhood folks, tourists and celebrities like Tom Cruise and Kim Kardashian.\u00a0 <\/span>He expanded his concept to include an Italian market.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

Earlier this year, and afrer nineteen years on the beach at 1747 Alton Road, he bid farewell and posted on his facebook: \u201cSo with great honor, I say goodbye to Miami Beach. Thank you for allowing me to serve my family\u2019s amazing recipes from Staten Island, New York. Macaluso\u2019s \/ Macaluso\u2019s & Co. will start a NEW chapter this summer!\u201d<\/p>\n

\"\"The new South Miami market opened as the magazine went to press.\u00a0 <\/span>It\u2019s evident with the family pictures on the walls, the Blessed Virgin statue and candles, the Michael revers his family and respects the traditions of many generations. \u201cThere\u2019s going to be a lot of love here,\u201d
\nexclaims Michael.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cCome to shop,\u201d says Michael.\u00a0 <\/span>At the market, customers can purchase, their cakes, canolis,\u00a0 <\/span>sauces, meatballs (2 in a jar), hand-made sausages, breads and much more.\u00a0 <\/span>Customers can purchase a salad with the bottled dressing on the side, so it\u2019s just right to eat when getting home and preparing dinner. There\u2019s room for customers to sit and eat as well.<\/p>\n

Michael\u2019s plans are to open a Macaluso\u2019s\u00a0<\/span>Restaurant in South Miami as well as the market.<\/p>\n

The retail shop market is open Tuesday \u2013 Sunday from 12n \u2013 6p.\u00a0 <\/span>Seating at the market is on a first-come, first-serve basis.\u00a0 <\/span>Come by and order up some traditional Italian dishes.<\/p>\n

COMING TO 73 STREET<\/b><\/h2>\n

\"\"With the popular Taco Craft on the corner at 58 Avenue, the retail level at the municipal garage will be showing new life over the next few months.\u00a0<\/span> PUB 52<\/b> opens in August. A concept by the Kanti Hospitality & Restaurant Group, it promises to be a great place for happy hour drinks, boasting a 70 foot long bar serving up hand muddled cocktails, craft beers and a bourbon whiskey section, and catching the big game on 30 plus state of the art TVs.\u00a0 <\/span>A weekly line-up of live bands, open mic and karaoke night are scheduled.<\/p>\n
