At the most recent Chamber South General Membership Breakfast<\/b> meeting held at the Dadeland Marriott on July 24, the Chamber welcomed PortMIami Director\u00a0Bill Johnson<\/b> and his staff to present a report on the Port of Miami.<\/p>\n

Eric Olafson (Port Manager of Intergovernmental Affairs and Cargo Development) presented PortMiami\u2019s plans for becoming big ship ready by 2015 to coincide with the opening of the expanded Panama Canal.\u00a0 These include deepening the Miami Channel, the installation of the new tunnel,\u00a0a new rail link, additional super\u00a0cranes, and the establishment of\u00a0a Foreign Trade Zone.<\/p>\n

Paula Musto (Director of Public Affairs) reviewed the expanding cruise industry setting sail out of PortMiami, including bringing in larger vessels from existing cruise lines as well\u00a0as new cruise lines Disney and\u00a0MSC Cruises.<\/p>\n

Breakfast attendees were presented with the economic impacts of both projects and were given the opportunity to ask all three
\nPortMiami representatives questions.<\/p>\n
