She had organized weddings, prepared floral arrangements and catered to the needs of her clients. This is her first fashion retail venture.

Both Victoria and Erin, who lives in the Northeast, had always wanted to do something together, and so they embarked on this new venture, designing the interior space and enlisting the entire family in actually building out the luxurious surroundings in two months. “We left a lot of sweat equity here,” exclaims Victoria.

Miro’s Boutique is not label driven and carries more than just well-known designers. Erin, as co-buyer, has selected international collections: Italy (Maliparmi), LeMaison, a designer for Tom Ford, Singapore, London, Russia, Marie France van Damme, L.A.M.B., Gwen Stephani (Canada), Connie Bates/Fahrenheit (NY), and for the holidays gowns from Kaufman-Franco. Miro’s has its own handbags and bracelets, and their goal is to design their own label someday.

TO MARKET TO MARKET

So what do you do with retail space that’s been empty for almost two years and that’s adjacent to your already successful bakery?

Answer: You explore your own dream. Misha and husband Gardo, thoroughly enjoy fine wines and great food, so they decided to create a space for a specialty market. Conceptualizing the market design and concept in October 2012, and after the birth of another child in June, they were ready to roll out their marketplace. Teaming up with Jose Lorenzo, who has been in the produce business for decades, and most recently manager at Epicure, they are able to capitalize on his knowledge, experience and relationships with purveyors. “You’re not to going find the products we sell here within a fifteen-mile radius of us,” says Gardo.

Licensed as a “restaurant,” Misha’s Cupcakes opened in 2008, and it is this designation that allows the Market at Misha’s to bring in select wines and products that are not available in local markets or package stores, and also serve up patrons who want to come by and order for consumption at the market.

Those learning about Misha’s Market have come to spend an evening uncorking wines, sampling salamis, cheeses, olives and much more. It’s become a place to meet and visit with friends.

Their boutique wines (“fermented grape juice” as their sign says) included Chost Block (Napa), Merry Edwards (Sonoma) Flacciarnello, a Super Tuscan and wine of the year. They carry great Italian and Spanish labels from small wineries.

So, come by the market. Pick up some prosciutto, pates, olives, Barolo soaked figs, Parmigiano Reggiano and a bottle or two of some outstanding vintages from around the world, that you won’t find elsewhere.
