On Tuesday evening, December 2nd<\/sup>, SOMI Magazine Publisher addressed the City of South Miami City Commission in support of the request for the street closure on Sunset Drive, so that there would be a memorial outside of the FootWorks store.\u00a0 These are excerpts of his remarks:\u00a0<\/i><\/p>\n

\u201cForty years ago, a young couple from Minnesota settled in South Miami, and together they have kept Miami running for forty years. South Miami enjoys the luxury of having one of the nation\u2019s most comprehensive retail businesses dedicated to the sport of running in its town center for over 40 years.\u00a0 This is due to the Huseby family\u2019s hard work, passion for running, excellent and well-informed customer service, and a devotion to community service.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis past weekend, South Miami lost a great pillar of this community.\u00a0 John \u201cHans\u201d Huseby was an unassuming and humble man, who brought his mid-West values and sense of commitment to this community.\u00a0 And we have been blessed with that for years.<\/p>\n

\u201cI was pleased to know him for more than thirty years; Hans was president of the RSMA for two different terms: once back in the late 1980\u2019s\/early 90s and a second term in this decade.\u201d\u00a0 He reluctantly assumed that role.\u00a0 However, as the need was there, he stepped up when asked – and that\u2019s the way Hans was.<\/p>\n

His two favorite events in town were \u201cSafe Streets Halloween\u201d where Hans would be decked out in his favorite clown costume and give \u201chaircuts\u201d to kids and adults, and the Parade of the Elves, where he would be a jolly lead elf organizing the little elves and getting them ready for their celebrated march down Sunset Drive.<\/p>\n
