The Underline is the name given to THE project to create a 10-mile urban trail and linear park from the Miami River to Dadeland South.\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\nPresentation at Vizcaya Village, June 23\n

COMMUNITY FULLY ENGAGED<\/b>
\n<\/b>Since Fall 2014, organizers have been hosting public exhibits and presentations at locations in the community: an event at HISTORYMIAMI called\u00a0\u201cThe Underline: Make It Yours\u201d visitors provided suggestions and comments,\u00a0the Coral Gables Museum hosted an educational program and events including\u00a0\u201cBike 305 Connecting Communities\u201d were all designed to get the word\u00a0out in the community.<\/p>\nMeg Daly, Founder and President of The Friends of The Underline presents at a recent General Membership Breakfast Meeting of ChamberSOUTH, the first chamber to endorse The Underline project.\n

A series of public meetings were held in April, with follow-up public meeting and presentations in June.\u00a0 From March to May 15th, over 600 surveys were collected.<\/p>\n

At recent public meetings on June 23 and 25, The Underline\u2019s master plan design team, James Corner Field Operations (JCFO) shared early design vision and\u00a0fielded comments from public meetings previously held in April.<\/p>\n

THE THREE KEY LAYERS FOR THE DESIGN OF THE UNDERLINE ARE:<\/b>
\n1.) Paths and Intersections
\n2.) Planting and Habitat
\n3.) Differentiated \u201cCharacter\u201d Zones<\/p>\n

The Underline will be multimodal corridor,
\na signature park and urban trail.<\/b>\u00a0 It could be:
\n1) Green corridor inspired by the\u00a0South Florida region
\n2) Central spine and network of regional trails,\u00a0making an interconnected corridor
\n3) Link between neighborhoods rather\u00a0than a barrier
\n4) Alternative mode of transportation
\n5) Economic generator<\/p>\n

UNDERLINE, WINNER OF \u201cPITCHING THE CITY 2015<\/strong>\u2033<\/strong><\/h2>\n

In late May, 2015, The Underline was voted winner among five contenders of the \u201cPitching The City\u201d presentation, a five-minute presentation, held in New York City, presented by\u00a0\u00a0and\u00a0

AWARDED ARTPLACE AMERICA\u2019S 2015 NATIONAL GRANTS PROGRAM<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cThe Underline\u201d project is among 38 recipients of ArtPlace America\u2019s 2015 National Grants Program.\u00a0\u00a0ArtPlace, one of the nation\u2019s largest philanthropies dedicated to creative placemaking, is investing $200,000 in Miami-Dade County to further integrate arts and culture into the field of community planning and placemaking to engage and connect communities.
