Wirtz-GalleryTHE WIRTZ GALLERY

Located in the lobby of the First National Bank of South Miami, each month The Wirtz Gallery presents local & international artists.  Gallery hours are Monday to Thursday 9a-4p, and Friday, 9a-6p.  Artist receptions are generally held on the second Friday of the month from 6-9p and are open to the public.

MARILYNIn October, the gallery hosts Marilyn Brown, a prolific, popular and highly successful artist who believes there is no lack of subject matter, especially in Florida.  She has been passionate about photography since her student days at the University of Florida, where she majored in journalism and had classes in photojournalism. She had the opportunity to study with Pulitzer Prize winning photographer Buddy Davis. After college she married but never lost her passion for photography.   The artist works primarily in black and while and uses a 4”x5” field camera. Marilyn skillfully conveys large, sweeping landscapes in which all details are clear.

For November, members of the Miami Watercolor Society will have an exhibition of works by the diverse members of the society.  The topics and styles of the paintings will be as varied as the 150 members.   Founded in 1974 this non-profit group informs and educates members and others by providing exhibitions and community education.   The intent of their exhibits is “to reintroduce the public to the aesthetic beauty and playful nature of watercolor painting and to promote increased interest in viewers to try the media for themselves,” noted Janice de Yong, MWS Exhibition Chair.
