And the answer: What is a CORDWAINER?
A cordwainer is a shoemaker who makes new shoes from new leather. The cordwainer’s trade can be contrasted with the cobbler’s trade, according to a tradition in Britain that restricted cobblers to repairing shoes.
Meet Abigail Dillon, originally hailing from Houston, Texas, and who recently situated her design studio here in South Miami. She is one of a very few professional female cordwainer worldwide. A professionally trained artist, Abigail began designing her sneakers over the last two years and has a growing clientele. For Abigail, the classic white sneaker while the only iconic fashion staple in the hip-hop community, it a playground for this artist and sneaker designer. Sneakers are shoes primarily designed for sports or other forms of physical exercise but are now also widely used for everyday casual wear.
At ART OF A WOMAN she has managed to distinguish herself from the men by focusing on unisex designs featuring complex fashionable color selections. Passionate about her craft, Abigail continues to re-imagine how non-traditional materials can be used to create a functional sneaker. She pushes the boundaries between art and footwear, producing imaginative one-of-a-kind wearable art.

Michelin Chef to open in SOMI
Bravo’s Top Chef Season 13 Winner in 2015, James Beard Award Semi-Finalist 2022 and recently awarded a Michelin Star for Stubborn Seed (Miami Beach), Jeremy Ford is again pairing up with Grove Bay Hospitality Group to open BEAUTY AND THE BUTCHER in the now closed Public Square on Red Road.
At age 35 Ford has enjoyed a meteoric ride in the kitchen since at age of 16 functioning a Grade supervisor in Matthews, and at Restaurant L’Orangerie (Los Angeles) where he studied and mastered techniques of the French chefs.
It was 2017 that he opened Stubborn Seed on Miami Beach with Grove Bay’s Ignacio Garcia-Menocal and Francesco Balli. His mastery in the kitchen, elevating simple and honest ingredients to splendidly elegant execution to the table is the key to the restaurant’s success.
Now just a few months after Stubborn Seed’s Michelin Star accomplishment, Ford and Grove Bay are ready for the imminent opening of BEAUTY AND THE BUTCHER, with a nod to h is daughter Madelynn (the “beauty”) and he “the butcher.”
Garcia-Menocal noted that the new restaurant with Ford in the kitchen will realize the “untapped potential” of the Public Square property. Balli notes that the design changes to the new restaurant will be minimal, retaining the U-shaped bar and booths. Ford will add some of his own personal style to the mix.
