While the show winners are pictured below, other real winners for the annual South Miami Rotary Art Festival were the estimated crowd of 25,000, the area businesses and the city itself.
For the 36th year the February art show blossoms on Sunset Drive as 123 exhibits are showcased in this beautiful area filled with historic buildings, trendy restaurants, and unique shops.
Photographer Chris Gug from Fort Lauderdale who was awarded Best in Show for his underwater photography. His subject is the water – above or below. Second Place winner is Shengzhu Bernadin for Fiber. She began dying fabric at the age of 7 while still in her native China. She combines plant dye extracted from Blue Grass Indigo plants with wine and other ingredients to create a rich indo blue. Shengzhu is pictured with a happy festival goer who purchased one of her pieces. Third Place winner is Sydney Carter of Powder Springs Georgia for Painting. He has been painting professionally for more than 20 years. His free and vibrant use of color are found in his themes and subjects from across diverse groups.
Recognized by Sunshine Artists as one of the 100 Best Fine Craft shows in America, the show continues to be one of the most popular and best attended events in South Florida.
The Art Festival is produced entirely by volunteers of the South Miami Rotary Club, and featured exhibits of fine arts and crafts from around the country, multinational food, live music, and more. In addition, there was a Pet Comfort Station for those who brought their furry friends.
Proceeds if the festival go to further the good community work of the South Miami Rotary Club International.
