BEST BUDDIES RIDE

Anthony K. Shriver brought his Best Buddies Challenge to Miami for an inaugural event last year.  Already the bicycle peloton is held in many cities, with 1500 riders contributing $4.5 million in the 10th Annual ride at Hearst Castle in California.

In Miami for its second year, fifty riders are gearing up for the November 22nd Friday morning ride which will start and end at Marlins Stadium.  Limited to 50 cyclists, the 100k ride features a Tour de France style police escorted peloton with road and intersection closures, support vehicles, and three fully-stocked rest stops.

It’s all in support of Best Buddies International, a global volunteer movement that creates opportunities for one-to-one friendships, integrated employment and leadership development for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

In preparation for the November ride, some 20 cyclists met early one morning at Shriver’s Miami Beach home, and then rode with a 14 member motorcycle police detail through Miami Beach, Miami and to Matheson Hammock with a return to Shriver’s home for a brunch.
