FILLING IN THE BLANKS!

This time of year in greater Miami the streets come alive with crowd-pleasing events.  Gone this year with the pandemic are Calle Ocho and Carnival on the Mile to name two.  The Miami Film Festival which SOMI has been a media sponsor is now offering online showings.  Here in our town the February Rotary Art Festival no longer fills Sunset Drive.  The Porche Concourse event Das Renn Treffen is not on Sunset as well, as is the annual VW show.

With the suspension of these events which filled our streets and sidewalks and brought traffic to our shops and restaurants, our business owners must turn to our local customers to fill in the blanks.  It is up to our readership to support our local businesses.

In search of more positive news, the annual Wings for Wishes hosted by Sports Grill which provides Wishes for kids, while curtailed, will be happening in some adapted form.  Stay turned to learn more about this event, which had been growing annually over the past several years.  It’s a great cause to support and worthy of your attention.

Area Stage Company which is the subject of our cover feature is making LIVE happen here in town with outdoor staged productions at Sunset Place.  Enjoy live theater sitting on a blanket with a picnic basket, your family/friends and family dog.

In this issue of SOMI Magazine you’ll also encounter “Angels Unaware” a magnificent life-size sculpture which is travelling around the country.  It’s a poignant piece of art and message.
Take the rail to Downtown Miami and the MetroMover to Bayside to see this work of art.

Also in this issue as ZOO Miami celebrates its 40th Anniversary, I’ve asked my friend Ron Magill to offer his take on the new Conservancy Center which opened recently.  Conservancy is a BIG issue for Ron and he calls out attention to it every chance he gets.

And so, read on, enjoy your Springtime SOMI and learn more about what’s happening around town.

I wish you and your families all the best during these most difficult and dire times.

Be safe, stay healthy, and stay sane!.
