Members and guests of the South Miami Drug-Free Coalition at its meeting of September 15, heard presentations from Dr. Jim Hall, Nova Southeastern University’s Community Epidemiology Work Group and Javi Correoso from National Capitol Strategies, updating on medical marijuana legalization in Florida.
Dr. Hall highlighted drug trends in Miami Dade County
– Past 30-day use of alcohol and binge drinking are both down among middle schoolers, holding steady for high school students
– Past 30-day use of marijuana down sharply among middle school students, up significantly among high schoolers
– Boys and girls are using marijuana at the same rate, and whites continue to outpace all other groups in use
– Perception of harm from marijuana is down for both age groups
