An annual tradition hosted by Deli Lane/Sunset Tavern is the Spiny Lobster Tournament held on the Friday of the mini sport season.

The spiny lobster (Panulirus argus) sport season is the last consecutive Wednesday and Thursday of July each year. Regulated by the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, a limit is set for 6 lobsters per person per day for the Biscayne National Park. The minimum size for the carapace is larger than 3”, measured in the water, and possession and use of a measuring device is required at all times.

For the tournament, we’re not looking at minimums.  The 2013 Spiny Lobster King was 20 year old Joshua Lewis with a 5.02 pound catch (pictured below).
